Samuels Gorge Wines
McLaren Vale, South Australia.
Grape Variety: 100% Shiraz
Growing Region: McLaren Vale
Vintage: An excellent 2013 growing season saw a warm, dry summer followed by a cool autumn which provided optimal growing conditions, especially for red wines.
Nose: the nose has a potent lift of liquorice and blackberry fruits. The ‘13 shows some engaging twists and turns; the swirl of smoke from a campfire in winter; the smouldering red gum and the dark smells of black coal.
Palate: In order to balance the natural sweetness of the mulberrys (a signature of the estate) the wine weaves in savoury of black olives and baccalà with ancient sticky balsamic.
Pairing: Italian braised beef cheek with cannellini beans; a seemingly endless lunch with heavy drapery and any one of the Don’s.
Cellaring: Drink now or age beautifully for 10 to 15 years
