Barossa Valley, South Australia.
2015 “Western Ridge” Shiraz
Closure: Screw Top
Grape Variety: 100% Estate Grown Shiraz
Growing Region: Barossa Valley
Vintage: Produced entirely from single estate vineyards on the Western Ridge of Pindarie property. The Shiraz is clone 1654, grown on red brown earth overlying limestone to give full flavour and concentration. The 2015 vintage was near perfect picking conditions with ideal temperatures and an easy run up to harvest. Good winter rains allowed for generous yields and the heat was not so severe as can often be the case. Harvest was at the end of February in the cool of the night.
Nose: The 2015 shows hints of toast and dark chocolate.
Palate: Shows abundant spice, a hint of earth, and powerful, sweet, plummy fruit. Its ripe yet subtle, with a savoury core that is long and even. Rich and savoury (Barossa!) yet elegant (Western Ridge red loam!). A terrific combination. Rich and fragrant, with a svelte mid-palate and gentle astringency; generous but even.
Pairing: With such soft rich and down-to-earth flavours we consider it complements most everyday food, such as grilled beef and lamb- but don’t overcook either.
Cellaring: Drink now or age beautifully
Awards: Bronze Medal Royal Queensland Wine Show 2015, Bronze Medal International Wine Challenge 2015
