2015 Cornerstone Grenache 750ml
Grape Variety: 100% Grenache
Growing Region: Barossa Valley
Vintage: This very old Grenache patch is part of the original Roennfeldt Vineyard. In spite of Grenache never being Michael’s favourite variety, these vines were amongst the first of the bunch to push Grenache as an equal to more prestigious varieties. We did good having a vigneron so respectful of provenance in the face of instant fashion and fad. While he kept the price down, our winemaking stonemason called it Cornerstone from the star. The 2014 vintage certainly had its moment! There were several bursts of heat for extended periods, and some minor flooding, but the Barossa vines held up well with terrific set of wines.
Nose: White pepper and bitter cherry glace.
Palate: This is not nutty, brittle, Pinot-like Grenache. This is all plush silky syrup. Its sensual and fleshy with no bones showing. With prune puree and blackberry liquuer.
Pairing: Try tea-smoked duck with a sauce of soy, anchovies and onions.
Cellaring: A beautiful wine to cellar for a decade.
